Support to CARIFORUM-EU EPA – Sustainable Tourism Regional Report

In 2008, the European Union (EU) and 14 Caribbean countries signed an Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA) geared towards strengthening trade and investment relations and promoting regional integration between the Parties and CARIFORUM countries. The EU has commissioned a series of sectoral reports to raise awareness of the economic opportunities related to the CARIFORUM-EU EPA to enable the EU private sector to foster valuable business partnerships in the region.

The second sectoral Report on Sustainable Tourism highlights several trade and investment opportunities in the sustainable tourism sector in the CARIFORUM region. An analysis of the benefits of the CARIFORUM-EU EPA for trade and investment in the sector is provided along with an overview of the legal and policy landscape across CARIFORUM. The report also underlines the main challenges that investors are likely to face when penetrating the CARIFORUM market.

The report was presented during a webinar on March 30 with industry experts, to validate and discuss the findings of the study, whilst informing stakeholders of the critical next steps for the effective adoption of sustainable tourism best practices. The webinar highlighted emerging trade and investment opportunities in sustainable tourism across the CARIFORUM as well as priority subsectors for EU trade and investment. It also explored conditions for market access and the ease of doing business.
