About Jaime
Dr.de Melo is Scientific Advisor at International Economics Ltd. He provides oversight of quantitative evaluation studies in the company. He is Professor Emeritus from the University of Geneva where he taught from 1989 to 2012. From 1972 to 1976, he was an economist at USAID then Assistant Professor at Georgetown University (1976-1980). From 1980 to 1993, he held various positions in the Research Department at the World Bank and was Division chief of the Trade Policy division (1991-93).
Jaime was Professeur Invité at CERDI, Université d’Auvergne (1986-2011), and at the Université of Aix-Marseille (1998-2001). He taught at the Joint Vienna Institute (1998-2003 and 2008-2010). He was non-resident senior fellow at Brookings Institute, 2013-2018. He is a CEPR fellow, a member of EU-GDN, and a senior fellow at FERDI.
Jaime has advised governments and consulted with the Africa Development Bank, the European Commission, the IMF, USAID, the World Bank, and participated in several projects with the LSE. A founding member of the World Trade Institute, where he taught from 2000 to 2006, he also served on its Board from 2000 to 2006. He has advised on several WTO litigations. He was editor-in-chief of the World Bank Economic Review 2005-2010.

Jaime obtained an MA in International Relations (SAIS) and a PHD in Economics from the John Hopkins University. He has served on editorial boards including the European Economic Review, 1999-02, and was editor-in-chief of the World Bank Economic Review, 2005-2010.
