The Chairman of International Economics and the Africa Trade Foundation, Mr Paul Baker, was recently interviewed in the Business Magazine where he discusses the need for Mauritius to anticipate the impacts on its foreign trade and to adjust its strategy following the new President in the White House.
Under the Trump administration, relations between the US and Africa took a decidedly transactional turn, marked by economic priorities and targeted trade policies. According to Mr Baker, Donald Trump favored direct and pragmatic exchanges, with a particular focus on American economic interests, often to the detriment of African partners. In the face of these uncertainties, Mauritius must maintain an active dialogue with US authorities.
