Trade in Services Performance Monitoring Dashboard Tool

Trade in Services Performance Monitoring Dashboard Tool

The Project at A Glance

The Trade Performance tool can bring several benefits to the users such as savings in time and resources, enhanced decision making, national and global visibility, ability to analyse historical data, simulation of scenarios, instant access from anywhere where there is an internet connection and finally easy reporting.

International Economics (IEC) has supported the Indonesian Ministry of Trade by creating the Trade in Services Performance Monitoring dashboard tool and will maintain and keep the data and indicators up to date. The TiS Dashboard was created under ARISE+ Indonesia programme and the Ministry of Trade of Indonesia is funding the maintenance and running of the online tool.

What We Found

The importance of the services economy and services trade for Indonesia cannot be underestimated, and understanding the composition and evolution of the services economy is crucial for the Government of Indonesia to implement the necessary policies to adapt to emerging trends and successfully negotiate trade agreements. Our Team, through an ARISE+ programme has supported Indonesia’s Ministry of Trade with designing a framework to support the country’s trade in services negotiations and identifying negotiation priorities for trade in services negotiations, which was followed by conceptualisation of a monitoring system on the performance of Trade in Services. A fully developed framework can help the Government to track the performance of Indonesia’s services trade and can be instrumental for trade negotiators to devise the right approach and strategy for the trade in services negotiations. For the tool to be continuously successful over the years, there is a need to maintain and keep the data and indicators up to date. Therefore, IEC’s team is taking care of maintaining and running the online tool and performing data updates.

Our Strategy and Impact

The Trade in Services Performance (TiSP) tool covers the whole panoply of Trade in Services Indicators available to measure the trade performance of Indonesia. The set of indicators in the Overall Trade Dashboard measures Imports, Exports, Trade Balance, and Total Trade, broken by Mode of Supply and Services but also the Growth Rates benchmarked against World performance. The Bilateral Trade Dashboard provides insights on the Trade in Services between Indonesia and its main partners using the same indicators available for the Overall Trade performance. The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Overview and Analysis dashboard provides an in-depth analysis of all the agreements Indonesia has signed. The tool has other dashboard indicators and does not limit itself to descriptive analytics of present and past performance but also includes a few Advanced analytics features that allow users to project and forecast the performance of Indonesia across the different Services. Users can forecast Indonesia’s trade by sector with partners broken down by mode of supply. The tool even allows the possibility of simulating the impact of increased demand in a particular sector over other sectors using the input-output analysis.
