In support of the government’s efforts to address the effects of the economic downturn triggered by the
COVID-19 health crisis, various assessments and studies have been conducted to inform decisions for the protection and recovery efforts. In this regard, the World Bank and United Nations (UN) proposed to launch an online platform for sharing research, data, and other resources on the impact of COVID-19 on Mauritius, Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and the sub-region.
International Economics assisted in the launching of the online Research Platform, to encourage collaboration across researchers from government, academia, civil society, and international development partners.

The Project at A Glance
What We Found
The Research Platform on the Impact of COVID-19 on Mauritius is founded by the World Bank, United Nations, and International Economics. The Platform is dedicated to the development and publication of research outputs around COVID-19 and its impact on Mauritius. Our team did the conceptual design, creation, and maintenance of the online platform.
The project also involved the organisation of a series of online events, in the form of fortnightly scientific symposiums with the objective to:
(i)showcase the approaches and results of research conducted on the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on Mauritius, and
(ii) facilitate the production of further analytical work.
Our Strategy and Impact
With the launch of the Platform, we achieved the following expected results:
- Information about COVID-19 impact (methodology, data, and initial or expected findings) is shared in the online platform.
- Partnerships are strengthened between the different actors.
Regular updates were done on the platform to reflect news, research articles, publicly available data, and any methodologies used to assess the effects of the pandemic in Small Island States, Mauritius, etc.
