Trade Facilitation Measures for Strategic Corridors in Africa

Trade Facilitation Measures for Strategic Corridors in Africa

The Project at A Glance

International Economics is supporting the EU Delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS Commission in the design of the horizontal/regional component under the EU’s Trade and Transport Facilitation Programme focusing on trade facilitation.

The project is being implemented under the TPSDE Facility II, funded by the European Commission and implemented by DAI Europe and ECDPM.

What We Found

DG INTPA adopted a “Strategic Corridors Approach” to enhance the impact of EU interventions by focusing on a limited number of key corridors. This approach aims to maximize the effectiveness and impact of EU funding by targeting areas where it can make a significant difference. The initiative also emphasizes improving the performance and management of these corridors by partner countries and regions. This holistic approach aims to ensure smooth transport of people and goods, facilitating regional, continental, and EU-Africa trade. In this context, this project simultaneously addresses trade and transport facilitation along these strategic corridors to amplify the impact of EU investments. Therefore, the overall aim of this assignment is to optimise gains from well-functioning trade and transport West African corridors, under ACT-62054 Trade and transport facilitation measures for Strategic Corridors in Africa.

Our Strategy and Impact

The outcomes of the mission are to identify opportunities and recommend key interventions to maximise investment impact in the selected corridors and across the region. The expert team will map and assess potential Implementing Partners and attribute optimal implementation modalities in line with the ACT-62054, namely Direct Management (Procurement) or Indirect Management with an entrusted entity, and propose a coordination mechanism and governance structure that should reflect specific aspects of ECOWAS coordinating role.
